Biography: Tarnowski

Glen Tarnowski was born on July 23rd, 1961, in Culver City, California. A very sick newborn, he was given a 3% chance of survival. But Tarnowski beat the odds. His parents immediately knew that their son’s destiny would be special.

Eight years after undergoing experimental surgery, that something special is revealed as a talent for painting. As a child, he takes art classes at the YMCA and, at the age of eight, sells his first painting to its director. Shortly after, he receives a scholarship to the Barnsdall Art Institute in Los Angeles.

After high school, Tarnowski enrolls at the California Lutheran University to pursue his education in art. He completes his studies at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design.

At the end of his formal education, he accepts an invitation from Sir Benjamin Weber, Dean of California Lutheran University, and joins the institution as art professor, a position he holds for one year before moving on to the private sector as corporate art director.

Tarnowski does freelance art work while working as art director for several large corporations before teaming up with Masterpiece Publishing. This association allows him to concentrate full-time on his most compelling passion: painting.

Tarnowski has since become the father of “Modern Allegorism”, an artistic movement inspired from the Old Master’s techniques and bent on finding ways of transforming everyday 21st century objects in a whimsical, inspirational, and/or paradoxical way in order to spark off reflection over modern life. It is important to understand that “Modern Allegorism”, unlike surrealism, is always positive, uplifting, inspirational, and enlightening. It is impossible to keep a straight face while looking at Tarnowski’s refreshing and playful paintings!
