The universe of Linda Vachon travels midway between painting and graphic art, canvas and poster, urbanity and nature.
Self-taught artist, she starts exploring photography and image processing in the early 20th century. The discovery of European poster artists pilots her approach from the very beginning. The wood panel is her medium of choice, reminiscent of the poster-layered palisades of a beloved and inspiring city landscape. Harnessing a mixture of digital drawings and paper etchings, she works with multiple mediums such as acrylics, oils and pencil. She frequently calls on photography, digitalizing each step of her creative process.
The human is her main subject of research. Going from one encounter to the other encounter, she scrutinizes colours and nuances. She describes her work as a “long conversation with women suspended in time, self-representations yet all-inclusive.
Each new creation is born from an existing work: by playing on details of previous illustrations incorporated to a novel work, she places a common thread in a flowing message, etched in intimacy and connection between the beings of her universe.
“To create in a workshop surrounded by trees and hues of green while remaining inspired by the metropolis, its concrete and palisades bursting with the rain, sun and wind-weathered images clothing my figures. I love torn paper, aged wood, rusty metal. I love fine lines, bold and raw strokes. I love the subtlety of oils, the speediness of acrylics and the exquisite beauty of black inks. I love spatulas, chalk, oil paint sticks, fingertips and old nails as carving tools. I love spontaneity, liberty, accidents. I love the imperfect, the singular, the out of the ordinary.” `
