31 May LIBRE and the visit of the Monarchs
In 2018, the MRC Memphrémagog became the first regional county municipality in Quebec to become “Friends of the Monarchs” of the David Suzuki Foundation. Five years later, the City of Magog is following suit in concrete terms by deciding to develop its “Garden of the Monarchs” this spring at the foot of the monumental edition of “Libre” which overlooks the shores of Lake Memphrémagog. From its height of 12 feet, the impressive work of sculptor André Desjardins will thus receive the visit of the Monarchs who will be able to forage the flowers of the Garden throughout the summer.
Becoming a “Friend of the Monarchs” means in some way confirming your commitment to preserving the habitat of this majestic butterfly through several concrete actions, such as planting milkweed and other native plants to attract it. Monarchs are an essential cog in the North American ecosystem, serving as food for birds and other insects.
“Libre – Monumentale” is certainly one of the must-sees in Magog. Facing Lake Memphremagog, “Libre” was already taking on its full meaning. Surrounded by Monarchs in freedom this summer, the symbol of “Libre” echoes even more. This summer, we invite you to discover or rediscover the work in its new setting!
